Thomas Edison is credited with inventing wax paper

Wax paper, also known as wax paper or paraffin paper, is a type of paper that is waterproofed by the process of spreading wax on it. The process of lubricating the paper to make it waterproof or translucent

Non-stick wax paper is used in cooking and baking and is very popular in the food packaging industry because it can keep moisture out and in. This paper is also used in handicrafts.

The use of wax paper for cooking in the oven is not recommended as it smokes and may catch fire. Wax on this paper allows it to prevent any transfer of moisture, so this type of paper is used in the packaging of foods such as sandwiches to prevent moisture from being transferred out, and it is also used in the packaging of dry foods to prevent moisture from entering. And prevent dampness.

Types of wax paper

There are two types of wax paper in food packaging: dry wax and wet wax.

Dry wax paper is actually bleached kraft paper, which under the process of dry waxing, the used wax is transferred into the paper textures and there is no trace of it on the surface of the paper. Because the wax used in dry wax paper has penetrated the paper texture and cannot be transferred to the product, this type of paper can be used in the packaging of hot foods such as sandwiches and paper under pizza.

Like dry wax, wet wax paper is made from bleached kraft paper, but this type of paper is made under the wet waxing process. The final product has a so-called glassy and waterproof state on both sides. As this type of paper does not transfer moisture, it is suitable for packing wet foods and refrigerated packages such as chicken, meat, fish and vegetables. This paper is also used in the chocolate industry for the internal packaging of chocolates.

Other applications

Shaving razors are traditionally wrapped in wax paper to make them less dangerous to handle. Wax paper is used in the packaging of all kinds of chocolates and chewing gums. This paper is used in sewing in such a way that the patterns made with this paper are glued to the fabric and cut. In photography, paraffin paper is used as a light scattering.
